One of the primary goals of Tonguespank and its products has always been to keep them affordable, even as a small-batch unique product line. Regrettably over the past 5 years we have been subject to the same severe market problems while sourcing products, labor and packaging that all other manufacturers have suffered with. We have kept most items within 10% of where they were pre-covid which has made margins extremely tight (if not a loss). For most years since covid, the Tonguespank Spice Company is most accurately described as an expensive hobby.

In the interest of keeping the Tonguespank ship afloat, one big change we are implementing without compromising any of our recipes is some new packaging. For the spice blends and salts we will be moving from the nice and heavy 1/2 cup (4 ounce) square glass bottles to larger full cup (8 ounce) plastic packaging. While this might cause some headaches fitting in the standard spice racks you are already lining our items up in, I feel this is the best way to keep products coming without compromising quality of the items. These are the same larger size you commonly see in the spice aisle and BBQ rub aisles, and are quickly becoming an industry standard in the spice and rub world.

The first items in these larger containers are the Better Burger Blend, Habanero Mango and Habanero Garlic blends. The next item will be the next batch of Sriracha sea salt which is in the production process right now.

Since these containers are MUCH lighter than the smaller and heavier glass counterparts, here are the areas which will save on production costs and provide a better bargain for YOU!

• Shipping cost from container maker to our kitchen is less.
• Labor cost is lower and speed is increased in the kitchen. Accidentally dropping and breaking one bottle while producing requires complete shutdown of the process and complete kitchen cleanup etc.. These new containers don't break.
• Shipping cost from Tonguespank to YOU is much less, you aren't paying to ship all that heavy glass.
• Less 'stuffing' and bubble wrap is needed when shipping as these don't break when dropped hard in shipping.
• The larger size means you don't have to order as often, reducing shipping costs when you run out.
• Our food-grade sealed refill packs that have been sold for a while also provide these benefits especially if you want to re-use your original container! Our food truck and restaurant users like these packages but are great for anyone doing a lot of cooking with our products.
